A deposit when the job is booked
Set a deposit on a job, taken by card when the customer books, with the balance due on completion. A bigger job that ties up a whole day, or needs materials up front, can carry a bigger deposit, so you are not out of pocket before you start.

- Can I ask for a deposit to cover materials?
- Yes. You set the deposit per job, so a job that needs materials or a full day can carry a larger deposit, taken by card when the customer books.
- What if the customer cancels?
- The deposit is taken at booking and recorded against the job, so a held day is paid toward rather than lost on trust. Your own terms decide what happens to it on a cancellation.
